R. Michael Sorrells, CPA
R. Michael Sorrells, CPA, serves as CB&H's Director of Tax Services for tax-exempt organizations, is a member of Cherry, Bekaert &Holland, LLP's Not-for-Profit Industry Group, in its Vienna, Virginia office. There, he oversees technical tax and exemption issues for the Firm's nonprofit clients. Mike's extensive experience includes assisting clients throughout the United States with complex exempt organization issues; providing all aspects of tax compliance and information reporting for organizations including preparation, review, and quality assurance reviews of tax returns; conducting tax research on a wide variety of issues affecting exempt organizations; assisting with the establishment of new organizations and completing the exemption application; providing unrelated business income review, analysis and planning services; representing clients during IRS field audits; and consulting on state and local issues: he has served many large national organizations. Mike has written numerous newsletter and journal articles, and frequently speaks to groups of organization executives on a variety of tax issues concerning their organizations. Mike received his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland and Virginia, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA); and the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (GWSCPA), where he serves as an active board member.
